Children’s Sculpture @ The Fort (CS@TF) is displaying works by primary and intermediate schools and art groups from the North Shore Peninsular at NZ Sculpture Onshore 2008. This will be third time that children from local schools are showing collective and individual sculptures in Fort Takapuna. Each school has created their own theme using the historic site to exhibit their work. This event is a unique opportunity for children to learn about art by exploring their own creativity in sculpture as well as learning about the work of professional artists. In particular Bayswater Primary has worked with ‘artist-in-residence’ Jill Cahill in designing their sculpture work which has been incorporated into a public walkway on the school boundary named by the children as The Ridge.

The children’s exhibition is a whole community project involving many aspects of the local community; businesses who sponsor and promote the event, teachers and artists who provide expertise and guidance, local iwi with knowledge and the Department of Conservation who open up the fort to the public. The Devonport Navy Museum is displaying a photographic exhibition on the naval history of HMNZS Tamaki at Narrow Neck. Friends of the Fort volunteer group is giving guided tours of the Fort and showing off some commissioned engineering work by local high school students. Also, the Navy Sea Cadet youth group are helping to ease the flow of visitors through the exhibition by posting themselves as guards at the exits.
