Funds raised support NZ Women's Refuges

Using the beauty and creativity of art to help the victims of domestic violence.

Fort Takapuna Historic Reserve is home to NZ Sculpture OnShore which opens on Thursday, November 8 and every day through to Sunday, November 18. It is one of the North Shore’s least known parks, but a magnificent cliff top site for the biennial sculpture exhibition.

Curator Rob Garrett has selected over 100 works from well known sculptors and younger artists that will invoke awe, amazement and delight. Look for works by Lucy Bucknall, Bing Dawe, Paul Dibble, John Edgar, Charlotte Fisher, Peter Lange, Christian Nicolson, Helen Pollock and other artists.

NZ Sculpture OnShore 2012 promises not only a variety of sculpture in different materials and styles. You will find works both big and small appropriate for gardens of all sizes, and affordable works as well as major collectible pieces.

Smaller art sculptures will feature in our indoor Sculpture Gallery in the Officer’s Mess building.

This year’s exhibition is the ninth biennial sculpture show – and our biggest – and includes Children’s Sculpture @ The Fort, guided tours and an educational program for young visitors and for schools.

There’s no nicer way to spend an early summer day than a walk in a sculpture filled park with a coffee break at the event cafe! Your attendance will raise funds for NZ Women’s Refuge.

We look forward to seeing you at NZ Sculpture OnShore 2012.

NZ Sculpture OnShore Gala Opening on Wednesday, November 7 from 6 – 8pm is a chance to preview the exhibition. There will also be a Twilight Night open to the public until 8 pm on Friday, November 9.

Supporting Women’s Refuges
NZ Sculpture OnShore began 18 years ago when a group of North Shore women were looking for a new way to raise funds for NZ Women’s Refuges. They established the Friends of Women’s Refuges Trust and are the owners of NZ Sculpture OnShore. The initial FoWR art shows changed to sculpture shows – and were among the first in the country to show major works drawn from New Zealand sculptors. Over those years we have raised $1,200,000 in total to support refuge infrastructure and projects.

Volunteer effort is the power behind NZ Sculpture OnShore.
